Biography
Immerse yourself in Aileé Zaga’s world and let her unmistakable blend of dark and ethereal art pop transport you to the surreal landscapes of your imagination.
Aileé Zaga [I-leh Zah-ga] is a Mexican artist, songwriter, and music producer based in British Columbia, Canada. Influenced by boundary-pushing acts such as Björk, Imogen Heap, and Chelsea Wolfe, as well as evocative songwriters like Enya and Amy Lee of Evanescence, she artfully weaves elements of electronic, classical, and alternative music to create a balance between memorable melodies and experimental sounds. Her contemplative lyrics often explore life, love, and death through the lens of her experiences as a woman and an immigrant.
Known for her hauntingly beautiful and deeply emotional live performances, Zaga has captivated audiences with her immersive shows and magnetic presence, inviting listeners to escape the monotony of everyday life and lose themselves in her spellbinding soundscapes. She has shared the stage with acts such as Lady Starlight, Longwalkshortdock, Luke Wallace, Kris Anders, and Down The Lees.
In November 2023, Zaga unveiled her single, Written in the Earth, a dramatic art pop track which received praise from The Permanent Rain Press, and Canadian Beats. Co-produced with Alex DeGroot, best known for his work with Zola Jesus, the song showcases Zaga’s intricate blend of styles and lyrical prowess. The KILLOGIC EFFECT praised her 2022 single Goddess of the Dawn, saying, “[This song] takes you on a journey beyond this realm… I look forward to hearing more from this artist.”
Zaga is beginning to carve out her own space in the local music scene, earning nominations for “Best of Kelowna 2024” in the categories of “Best Local Musician” and “Overall YouTube Channel.” She has been featured in several Canadian outlets, including The Permanent Rain Press, Global Okanagan, Canadian Beats, and KelownaNow, among others. In 2023, she was featured in The Art of Pressing Play, a documentary series exploring the underground electronic music scene in Calgary, directed by Fatiha Rezwan. Additionally, she will be featured in the upcoming music series Amplified Okanagan, directed by Autumn MacDuff.
Zaga uses her platform to increase the visibility of women in the music industry through various collaborations on her YouTube channel, which has amassed over 125.8K views. In 2021, she participated in the project Ninety, where proceeds supported organizations that educate gender minorities in the audio industry.
